We are a multi-generation dairy and beef operation located on the West Cumbrian coast. Our current day family operation was founded by Messrs John and Jean Messenger in the 1980's. They both still play an active role on the farm with their son Mark and his wife Sandra, and their grandson Adam. We are consistently ranked amongst the top herds in the county on £PLI. £PLI is a calculation of financial value based on genetic gain. This is achieved through careful selection of traits that produce a robust, highly fertile, and healthy animal that thrives on a predominantly grass diet that the Cumbrian climate provides. We have found that the Viking Red breed of dairy cattle ticks all the boxes. These red beauties not only produce high quality milk, but they are quiet and healthy with sound feet. Hereford and Limousin bulls are used on some of the cows to produce a good quality, beef animal.
